Success Stories

Salient achievement

  • A low cost bamboo cage culture technology was developed by the College under NFDB sponsored project for enhancing fish production of beels of Assam through rearing of fish fry to fingerling size and releasing these in the beels.
  • The College has successfully completed another NFDB sponsored project on “Sustainable livelihood promotion through fish drying activities by establishment of Community Resource centre” in three districts of Assam viz. Nagaon, Morigaon and Dhemaji.
  • A project on “National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases” is also undergoing in the College with financial assistance from NFDB Hyderabad with a budget outlay of Rs.76.93 lakh.
  • A project on “Stock assessment studies of Gudusia chapra in Thekera Beel of Morigaon District of Assam” sponsored by CIFRI is also undergoing.
  • A NAIP sponsored project on ‘Live Better with Flood – An  Approach  for Sustainable Livelihood Security in Dhemaji District of Assam, Component – III, ICAR, New Delhi was completed where AAU was a Consortium Partner with AFPRO and College of Fisheries, AAU was acting as Co-PI.
  • Etiological agents of major diseases of Assam (EUS, Dropsy, Ulcer diseases, Argulosis, Learneosis etc.) were identified at College of Fisheries, AAU, Raha and necessary measures were suggested to the farmers.

 

Technology transferred:

  • Process on preparation of fish pickle using traditional preservatives was developed and transferred the technology to Meghali Food Products, Jorhat and J M Food Products under AIP programme (USAID) on 10-11 December, 2014.
  • One of the faculty members Dr. P. J. Sharmah received a certificate in recognition of his contribution towards Translation Research and Commercialization Initiates under AIP through development of recipe and process for fish pickle by Cornel University, USA and AAU, Jorhat.
