Academic Council.

Composition of the Academic Council:

  1. The Vice-Chancellor, Ex-Officio Chairman
  2. The Deans of all the faculties of the University
  3. Director of Research (Agriculture)
  4. Director of Research (Veterinary)
  5. Director of Extension Education
  6. Director of Students Welfare
  7. Director of Postgraduate Studies
  8. Two members as may be co-opted by Academic Council as representatives of different fields of agriculture
  9. Such other members as may be prescribed

Power & Responsibilities of Academic Council:

  1. The Academic Council shall subject to the provision of this Act and the Statutes have the power by regulations of prescribing all courses of study and determining curricula, and shall have general control on teaching and other educational programmes within the University and shall be responsible for the maintenance of standards thereof.
  2. It shall have powers to make regulations consistent with this Act and the Statutes relating to all academic matters subject to its control and to amend or repeal such regulations.
  3. In particular and without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing power, the Academic Council shall have power:
    • To advice the Board on all academic matters including the control and management of libraries.
    • To make recommendations for the institutions of professorships, readership, teachership, teaching assistantship and other teaching posts including post in research and extension and in regard to the duties thereof.
    • To formulate, modify on revise schemes for the constitution of departments of teaching, research and extension education.
    • To make regulation regarding the admission of student to the University and determine the number of students to be admitted.
    • To make regulation relating to the courses of the study leading to degrees, diplomas and certificates.
    • To make regulation relating to the conduct of examinations and to maintain and promote standards.
    • To make recommendations regarding Post-Graduate teaching, research and extension education.
    • To make recommendations regarding the qualifications to be prescribed for teachers in the University, and
    • To exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be conferred or imposed on it by or under the provision of this Act.

Board of Studies

Composition of the Board of Studies

  1. The Dean of Faculty, Ex-officio Chairman.
  2. All Professors and heads of the Faculty.
  3. All Associate Professors of the Faculty.
  4. One Student representative from the Faculty.
  5. I/C, Academic Cell of the Faculty, Convener.

Power and Responsibilities of Board of Studies

  1. The Board of Studies shall be constituted in accordance with subsection (3) of Section 14 the Act. The Dean will preside. In his absence, the Members present shall elect a Chairman from among the Head of Depts.
  2. All questions to be considered in a meeting of Board of Studies shall be decided by a majority of votes of the members present. The chairman of the Board shall be entitled to vote and if the votes, be divided he shall have a second or casting vote.
  3. At the meeting of a Board of studies two third members shall form a quorum.
  4. The Board of studies shall exercise all the powers and perform all the duties conferred on it by the Assam Agricultural University Act. It will be the duty of such Board to:
    • Propose to the Academic Council, courses of study for the various programme of instructions offered in the faculty concerned.
    • Propose to the Academic Council, the curricula, in the faculty and advise the Council in regard to all questions referred to it regarding the syllabi for various under graduate and post graduate programmes, and
    • Review from time to time standard of teaching and evaluation of students and guide student’s scholastic programmes in the faculty concerned and propose new rules to the Academic Council

Dean, Faculty of Fisheries Science

Initially for a couple of years the college was run by an Officer on Special Duty (OSD). The position was created at the time of inception of the college. Responsibilities of the OSD of the College were at par with the position of the Dean of Faculty. Although the Faculty of Fisheries Science was notified in 1999 but till the year 2015 it was run by an OSD. In the year 2015, by an order of Vice- Chancellor, the College of Fisheries has been placed under the supervision of the Dean, Faculty of Fisheries Science. Now all the proposals are routed through the Dean of the college.

Responsibility of the Dean

  1. Be a whole time officer of the faculty.
  2. Be the Chairman of the Board of Studies.
  3. Be responsible to the Vice- Chancellor for faithful observance of the Statute and Regulations relating to the faculty.
  4. Organize and conduct those functions in close liaison with other officers.
  5. Perform such other duties and functions necessary for proper functioning of the work of the faculty as assigned by the Vice- Chancellor.

Degree offered:

  1. BACHELOR OF FISHERIES SCIENCE (B.F.Sc.): 4 years duration (8 semesters)
  2. MASTER OF FISHERIES SCIENCE (M.F.Sc.): 2 years duration (4 semesters)
  3. DOCTORAL DEGREE (Ph. D.): 3 years duration (6 semesters)

The College framed the ongoing B.F.Sc. syllabus following the guidelines of the Deans’ Committee (Vth Deans’ Committee) under the aforesaid designated departments. Department and semester wise allocation of credit hours and distribution of various courses of the B.F.Sc. degree programme are-
